J2ME on Set Top boxes via OnRamp

Posted at May 4, 2004 08:08 AM in J2ME .
Upon finalization of the specification (JSR 242), OnRamp to OCAP, a profile of the J2ME CLDC technology specification, will be available to all set-top box vendors, DTV application developers and service providers.

Essentially what we have here is J2ME on set-top boxes. The thinking is that they are just as constrained (or even more so) than mobile phones and Java is common enough that this will enable a new era of applications. OCAP is OpenCable Applications Platform. OnRamp brings OCAP to J2ME.
