IBM WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment, part of IBM's Workplace Client Technology, Micro Edition family, features a certified implementation of the J2ME(TM) specifications, specifically the Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) and Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP), which are core market requirements for the majority of mobile phones shipping today. Presumably, this doesn't mean every Openwave V7 handset will have IBMs implementation of J2ME on the handset. After all, not all handsets are for J2ME carriers. They fail to mention which version of MIDP it's using, but this could lead to newer versions shipping faster. Or it could have the opposite effect. Even now, not all carriers are shipping phones with the latest version of the Openwave browser. Just look at the Motorola i730, with many advanced feathres, including MIDP 2.0, it still has Openwave 4.1. Openwave to Add IBM(R) Websphere(R) Technology to Mass Market Data Phones |
