Research and consulting firm Zelos Group said Qualcomm Inc.’s BREW application download system appears to have emerged the winner in the United States in the battle for mobile-phone middleware, beating out Sun Microsystems Inc.’s more widely deployed Java technology.

Because Qualcomm acts as the single point of contact for the development and distribution of BREW applications, developers and carriers can more quickly introduce new services and technologies to users.
