Nokia to Only Hold 49% of Symbian

Posted at July 6, 2004 10:54 PM in Symbian .
Symbian, the mobile phone operating system jointly owned by several leading handset makers, will pass a significant milestone on Wednesday with the announcement that most of its owners have agreed to increase their stakes in the company, preventing Nokia from increasing its holding above 50 per cent.

So, apparently, this is good for Nokia even though it means they won't have controlling ownership.

In an announcement expected on Wednesday, Symbian's existing investors, with the exception of Samsung, will exercise their pre-emption rights following the sale of Psion's stake to Nokia. This will mean Nokia's holding will rise from 32.2 per cent to around 49 per cent.
