JavaOne not just about Enterprise

Is JavaOne about to become JavaTwo -- with a split focus on enterprise and increased attention on consumer devices?

Many longtime Java/J2EE enterprise developers attending this year's JavaOne would reluctantly say, "Yes!" And, many are confused by the turn of events. Some outspoken developers are even upset.

At issue: A startling disconnect at this year's JavaOne between Sun's high-visibility, Java-for-consumer-devices push, and the hunger by many attendees for more in-depth product support, roadmaps and vision for Java/J2EE in the enterprise.

With 1 billion network-attached PCs out there and far fewer servers out there, Sun seems right in targetting the 17 billion network-attached devices that will be around by the end of the year, at least according to market analysts.

"If I had a penny for every one of them..."
