J2ME In the Car

Posted at July 13, 2004 07:33 AM in J2ME .

It's not a huge leap that J2ME could end up in car devices, just as various forms of Windows has.

BMW was the first to use it in its iDrive in-car computer system, but owners won’t be able to tell it apart from the older iDrive because it looks and functions almost exactly like its predecessor – owners familiar with the old system will feel right at home with the new one.

At JavaOne, Siemens VDO showed a 645i BMW with the Java-powered iDrive that controlled the global positioning system (GPS) navigation, entertainment, airconditioning, maintenance and other functions in the car.
