Downloadable applications, including those developed in J2ME and BREW programming languages, have gained popularity because they can be downloaded directly to the handset thus making it easier to view colorful graphics, icons and large amounts of data. In fact, many of the major US wireless carriers support mobile J2ME applications. IDC, a leading IT analyst group, predicts that 30 million J2ME and BREW handsets will be sold in 2004, representing a growth of 111%. That's pretty decent growth as a whole and shows that the industry is still essentially in its first baby steps exploring the new world around it. |
