The Mobile Sensor API, JSR 256, was approved as an optional package to communication with and manage sensors from a mobile device. Sensors include such things as thermometers, heart rate monitors, cameras, weather, etc. The Contactless Communication API, JSR 257, was submitted by Nokia. This communication may be based on RFID, NFC, bar codes, and other such forms of communication that transfer data one or both ways. The Interface Customization API, JSR 258, was approved for creating a generic means of customizing the user interface on devices. This could potentially lead to skinning of handsets in a much more cross manufacterer and device type way. Finally, the Ad Hoc Networking API, JSR 259, was submitted by Siemens. This enables mobile devices to join in peer-to-peer networking and includes such things as service discovery and capabilities sharing. |
