Nokia Prototype SDK 2.0 for J2ME™ is the software development kit for developers creating Java applications Series 40 Developer Platform, Series 60 Developer Platform and Series 80 Developer Platform compatible phones or Nokia 7710 phone. The product consists of emulators, application programming interfaces (API's), documentations and examples.

So what's a Prototype SDK?

In Nokia's own words:

Nokia provides two different sets of SDKs: 1) SDKs and 2) Prototype SDKs. SDKs emulate the phone behavior of Nokia devices as closely as possible, because their emulators are based on the same software as the specified Nokia devices. The emulators of a prototype SDK are based on the reference implementation of the Java APIs of the corresponding Developer Platform. The main benefits of prototype SDKs are early availability and fast performance. Each prototype SDK package contains several Developer Platform emulators to create and compile an application and verify its functionality for different Developer Platforms and devices.

So here it is. The new Prototype SDK 2.0 for J2ME which can be used for Series 40, Series 60, and Series 80 handsets. However, it's not Nokia's exacty implementation of J2ME on any particular handset. It does allow developers to get a head start though. It also includes support for JSR-184 (3D Graphics API) and JSR-179 (Location API).
