Forum Nokia brings us a document on developing for Series 80 and the 7710, which is a close cousin of the Series 80 platform.

The stated purpose of this document, straight from Nokia:

The purpose of this document is to provide detailed information and guidance on the most important differences between the two platforms — Series 80 Developer Platform 2.0 (Series 80) and the Nokia 7710 device (formerly known as Series 90 Developer Platform 2.0). These differences need to be considered when developing software that is intended either for devices based on Series 80 or the Nokia 7710. Although there are some differences, Series 80 and the Nokia 7710 share the same code base and much of the development effort could be utilized to develop applications both for Series 80 Developer Platform 2.0 and the Nokia 7710. In fact developing applications to run both on Series 80 Developer Platform 2.0 and the Nokia 7710 is typically easy.

This document is based on the beta SDK releases of the two platforms. It aims to highlight the most important differences between the two platforms and the differences between the devices based on Series 80 and the Nokia 7710, including hardware requirements, system environment and applications, API usage, and so on. The document also gives advice on how to take these differences into account when designing applications. By referring to the information in this document, developers should be able to create applications that can run equally well on both platforms, with little or no loss of functionality or usability.
