All data collection applications should geotag the data that is entered or captured. Why? It's a useful bit of information that can enable may new and exciting applications -- even ones that you may not think of yourself. Don't know how to geotag? Well, here is an application that takes a very simple approach to it: gsmTagger: cellId coding your pictures All it does is rename the image to be the current GSM cell ID. It's too bad it doesn't insert this data into the EXIF, but at the same time it works and is easy to deal with on a server. Not only that, but it doesn't require functioning GPS -- just a signal. Once the data is always there, the uses will follow.
