Mobile GMaps: The Buzz This Week

Once again, we post to something because it's all the buzz around the web. The idea is actually rather nice. It's much easier to get data from a source like Google than to try to store it all locally on the device. Right now, it's mostly for just looking at maps and finding locations. There isn't yet a direction feature. Once there is and it ties in with a GPS receiver and can smartly watch for upcoming changes, then it'll be a full featured navigation app. But, right now you can use it in your movie productions on Satellite mode to show your spy satellite capability. Or something like that...

In any case, Google Maps has a full API that can be leveraged now. It's intended for use with JavaScript from a web page, but who is preventing it from being useful from a handset?
