This article, over at XML.com, talks about doing light weight SOAP for mobile handsets to access web services. The perspective is interesting, since it takes a 2003 point of view when talking about the distribution of handsets and such. However, with our modern EVDO networks with relatively low latency connections optimizing bandwidth use can make apps respond as if they weren't even using the network (well, close). Although the article discusses this with a J2ME point of view, the techniques will work on any platform (with, perhaps, a little extra work on the developers part). |
