Here we have yet another Java on top of BREW solution. We've yet to see anything actually reach the market and consumers, though, where we can take advantage of such things.

Aplix Corporation - Press Releases

TOKYO -- November 1, 2005 -

Aplix Corporation (TSE: 3727), a global leader in deploying JavaTM technology on mobile phones, today announced the availability of JBlendTM for QUALCOMM's BREW® solution.

Aplix’s JBlend solution is a Java environment that is platform independent, meaning that it can be integrated into a variety of operating systems and mobile phone environments. By providing JBlend on the BREW client, the amount of time required for a handset manufacturer to support the Java requirements of a wireless operator is dramatically reduced.

Aplix has a very comprehensive Java roadmap, especially with regards to advanced Java requirements for 3G phones. Major operators’ Java specifications for 3G such as Vodafone’s VFX and NTT DoCoMo’s DoJa are supported by JBlend, as well as a variety of industry standard specifications. QUALCOMM’s BREW solution is successfully deployed with 56 commercial operators and has earned BREW publishers and developers over $350 million as reported in June 2005.

“We are pleased that Aplix’s JBlend enables Java content on BREW phones,” said Tom Grieco, senior director of BREW Developer Relations for QUALCOMM Internet Services. “This product demonstrates the truly open nature of the BREW solution by offering publishers and developers the ability to develop applications in the programming language of their choice, thereby extending the benefits of the BREW solution to a wider audience.”

“We are very excited to support BREW with a pre-integrated version of JBlend. BREW is a successful wireless solution, and our customers are very pleased to have the time-to-market advantages realized by a pre-integrated version of JBlend on BREW,” said Wesley Kuo, president and CSO, Aplix. “Given our excellent position in the Java market, as well as the global success of the BREW solution, we believe both companies’ customers will benefit.”

QUALCOMM’s BREW solution is designed to meet the distinct and varied needs of wireless operators, handset manufacturers, publishers, developers and end users around the world. BREW products and services include: an open, extensible client platform that supports robust systems and application software including personalized and branded user interfaces for mass market devices; a J2EE™-based, modular delivery system that enables the distribution of content, applications and user interfaces to wireless devices across all air interfaces; a dedicated professional services team that supports the integration of customized implementations; and the wireless industry’s first global marketplace to support the monetization of applications and services developed in all programming languages. The BREW solution can make the wireless visions of innovative companies a reality.
