2005 Wireless Subscriber Data

Knowing subscriber data can often be important when choosing priorities for developing applications. Most of the 2005 data is in now, and around the net. Here are some highlights from a few different sites:
US Carrier data and growth:
- #1 Cingular up 1.8 M to 54.1M
- #2 Verizon Wireless up 2M to 51.3M
- #3 Sprint up 2M to 47.6M
- #4 T-Mobile up 4.4 M to 21.7M
Around the world:
- Vodafone up 7.1M to 179.3M
- NTT DoCoMo has 20.1M on 3G FOMA, 30.2M on 2G mova
- SK Telecom has 19.5 M
- VIVO has over 30M subscribers ("the largest in the Southern Hemisphere")
- China has >400M -- around 20% share -- subscribers, with 10M on 3G services
- Russia has ~ 120M subscribers
- 245.2 million handsets were sold globally in the last quarter of 2005, for over 825 million for the year
- Nokia sold over 83 million, or about 34% of all sales
- Motorola sold over 44 million, or about 18% of all sales
- Samsung sold over 27 million, or about 11%
- LG Electronics sold over 16 million, or just under 7%
- Sony Ericsson sold about 100k less than LG, virtually tieing LG, but still in 5th place

You seem to be missing out several, including Orange - Europes number one operator with 84 million. The market keeps changing with acquisitions and sales, and will continue to do so for several years to come.

Thanks for the note. That's a very good point -- and yes, I did miss Orange. Find recent, hard numbers was more difficult than I expected, actually, so thanks for the info.
